After doing research, scientists discovered a new way that can help people with diabetes. By combining aerobic exercise and resistance, glycemic levels of type 2 diabetes patients increased significantly than those who do not do it.

The glycemic index is a number that indicates the potential increase in blood glucose from carbohydrates that are available on a food or it can simply be said as a level or rank foods according to their effect on blood glucose levels. However, an increase in the index was not found in patients who only do aerobic or endurance training alone.

Timothy S Church from the University of Louisiana along with his colleagues tested HART 262-D is to compare women and men with type 2 diabetes who had been doing aerobic or resistance exercise alone and combination of both to changes in hemoglobin in the body.
“We can now look at individuals with diabetes right in the face and tell them, ‘This is the best exercise prescription for you,’ ” said the lead author, Dr. Timothy S. Church, director of preventive medicine research at Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University.

Each volunteer underwent tests during the nine months between April 2007 and August 2009. As many as 41 percent of participants are not included in any training, 73 participated in endurance exercise, 72 join aerobics classes, and 76 people joined the exercise a combination of both the practice.

The researchers found no changes in absolute levels of HbA1c in those who do a combination of exercises. Both the groups who perform resistance training or aerobic me, did not find any changes. "Only those who do exercise combinations that show significant results. Look, oxygen consumption in that group increased sharply when compared with other groups. Their waist circumference was reduced," said one researcher. These findings have been published in the journal JAMA edition of 24 November 2010.
